Johnson Muthama, a former senator from Machakos, caused consternation when he hinted at a plot to dissolve Kenya Kwanza parties at the end of the five-year pact.
During an interview with TV47 on Monday, October 10, Muthama said that preparations were well on to portray President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) as the sole governing party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“What we mean is that, God willing, in 2027, we intend to run for office as the UDA political party, so our elections will be about the party. That is why we are doing grassroots elections to ensure that we have attracted individuals from the grassroots “He expressed this.
He clarified that all the other Kenya Kwanza parties would be welcome to disband and merge into the dominant party.
Muthama, however, made it clear that nobody would be forced to change to UDA.
He said that the alliance was still standing as of the latest Kenya Kwanza pact before the August 9 elections.
According to Muthama, the party has not yet decided whether or not to form a new coalition in preparation for the 2027 elections, but that a decision is still in the works.
