Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have demanded that the County Executive Committee (CEC) in charge of finance, Charles Kerich, release funds to the assembly within six hours or face impeachment.
The legislators, led by their house leadership, accused Kerich of withholding funds, which they say has had a significant impact on the assembly’s operations.
Majority Leader Peter Imwatok and Majority Whip Moses Ogeto have stated that Kerich’s actions have sabotaged the legislative processes, and he no longer deserves to sit in the Cabinet if he fails to release the funds.
However, Kerich responded by stating that there is a monthly cash flow plan in place between the executive and assembly on how funds are released, and the executive has disbursed funds upon several requests from the Nairobi City County Assembly.
He urged the MCAs to be patient and understand that funds would be released as per the work plan.
Imwatok, however, gave Kerich an ultimatum of six hours to comply or face a censure motion for impeachment on Thursday.
