Ngirici to drop petition against Waiguru’s victory

    Published on

Requests for the withdrawal of an election petition that challenged the re-election of county governor Anne Waiguru and her deputy David Githanda have been made by Wangui Ngirici.

Brian Khaemba, the lawyer representing Ngirici, told the court of his client’s decision to abandon the complaint at a pre-trial hearing.

The lawyer also asked the court to give them seven days to draft, publish, file, and serve the respondents with the application for the same, upon which the judge would rule.

According to Khaemba, the time frame would also allow responders to reply to the submitted application.

The applicants’ demands were granted, and presiding judge Richard Mwongo commanded the petitioners to comply before October 24, when the court will start providing more instructions about the matter.

IEBC, the county returning officer, governor Waiguru, and her deputy David Githanda were all defendants in a lawsuit filed by Ngirici and Wanjao on nine different grounds.

The justifications included breaking the law, voter bribery, unstamped/unsigned form 37As, excluding petitioners’ agents, lack of transparency in the voting and counting, and unusually high turnout in Gichugu.
