As of 4:55 PM on September 29, 2022: Kennedy Ng’ondi, an Azimio candidate, has been elected to the position of speaker of the County Assembly for Nairobi.
County Assembly Clerk Edward Gichana officially named Ng’ondi the new Speaker of the Assembly after he ran unopposed in the second round of voting.
He received 68 votes, enough to defeat Hassan Robow, who only received 55 votes.
Edward Gichana, the clerk of the County Assembly, said neither candidate had received 82 votes—the threshold for approval in the first round.
Ng’ondi had 71 while Robow got 52.
After his predecessor Benson Mutura, he will now serve as the fourth assembly speaker.
