The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) is set to undergo restructuring following a meeting between Health CS Susan Wafula and key sector leadership from the fund and the Federation of Kenya Employers.
The plans, which were hinted at by the ministry in February, involve changing the name of the fund to the National Social Health Insurance Fund (NSHIF).
NHIF CEO Peter Kamunyo, board chairperson Michael Kamau and FKE CEO Jacqueline Mugo were also present at the meeting, which marked the beginning of the process to transition NHIF to NSHIF.

The meeting focused on outlining strategies and plans to expand the range of services covered and the network of healthcare providers in order to improve access to quality and affordable healthcare.
This move is aimed at driving the achievement of Universal Health Coverage goals and ensuring that Kenyans benefit from the restructured National Social Health Insurance Fund.
