NSSF appoints David Mwangangi as interim CEO.

With Anthony Omerikwa’s tenure as CEO of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) coming to a close, President William Ruto will soon choose a successor.

On Monday, November 21st, NSSF promoted from within, choosing David Mwangangi to occupy the role of interim CEO.

Omerikwa spoke fondly of his eleven years at NSSF in his parting address, detailing his climb from manager to general manager to acting CEO of the fund in 2015 (a post he held for 56 months before being confirmed).

“I leave the fund a very proud Kenyan for all we have accomplished in remaking the organization,” Omerikwa said.

In a message to media outlets, the departing CEO said, “The Board has nominated David Mwangangi to be the interim CEO, and he will be taking over from me in acting capacity beginning November 22, 2022.”

After eleven years, Omerikwa increased NSSF’s assets from Ksh195 billion to Ksh29 billion.

His departure initiates the search for his replacement.

As part of Ruto’s plan to reorganize NSSF, he’s eager to replace the agency’s leadership.

Currently, each Kenyan is required to contribute Ksh200 per month to the NSSF, but Ruto wants to raise this by a factor of 10.

The President also promised government contribution of Ksh1 for every Ksh2 workers save. If Ruto’s proposed adjustments are implemented, the government aims to provide Ksh 6,000 for each worker per year.
