Reports of a volcanic eruption on Mt. Longonot have been denied by the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS).
A fire event was confirmed as the cause of the flames seen on the mountain on Thursday evening, October 27.
The KWS representative also said that the fire was spotted surrounding the crater, leading Kenyans to mistake it for an eruption.
The fire’s origin, unfortunately, has not been determined as of this writing.
Said the official.
According to some reports, locals were in a state of fear, and many were trying to get out of the area.
Mount Longont is an extinct volcano that formed as a consequence of the intense heat generated by the Earth’s crust under the Great Rift Valley.
