Police impostor arrested for trying to blackmail YouTuber Eve Mungai

    Published on

In violation of Kenyan law, a TikToker has been accused in Kibera court for allegedly trying to extort YouTuber Everlyne Wanjiku Mungai, also known as Eve Mungai, while dressed as a police officer.

After pleading not guilty to the charges brought against him by senior principle judge Esther Boke in Kibera, Mailu Muendo was granted bail in the amount of Sh300,000 (or Sh200,000 in cash) and freed on bond.

The accused perpetrated the offense on many occasions between October 3 and 4 in Nairobi County on the social media platform Tik-Tok, where he falsely identified himself as a police officer, according to evidence given in court.

A second case of unlawful possession of government merchandise and a third offense of wearing a police uniform without inspector general of police written authority also stood against him.

The accused was caught in illegal possession of jungle pants, one Smoc jacket, one black barret, and a pair of boots on October 7 at 01:53 hours in the Pipeline area of Embakasi Sub-county, Nairobi County.

The complainant became aware that the information he had shared on her had spread widely online and called for his arrest.

However, the accused has claimed not to be the guilty of any crimes.

Mungai will be testifying as the complainant in the case.
