Over 30 Jubilee MPs gathered at State House in Nairobi on Tuesday, February 8, to hear President William Ruto’s insights on the future of the country. The President expressed his views on the importance of putting political differences aside and working for the people.
Efforts for Drought Mitigation Scaled Up
The President emphasized that it is the duty of leaders to work together to provide for the citizens. He noted that “the people who elected you are the same people who elected us.” The President also announced plans to scale up food and water provision efforts in the country, starting Monday, February 13.
Putting Political Differences Aside
The meeting was an opportunity for the Jubilee leaders to come together and put political differences aside. The President stated, “You have a right to make choices as Kenya is a democratic country. You are now our members and we will treat you as such.” The head of state also emphasized the importance of Parliament in enacting laws and regulations and sought support from the lawmakers on critical issues such as the Housing Fund and Water Purchasing Agreements.
Leaders, including Balambala MP Omar Shurie, Eldas MP Adan Keynan, and Isiolo Women Representative Fatuma Dullo, affirmed their party’s close relationship with the President. The meeting was described as a “coming back home” for the leaders. Despite the efforts for unity, Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni stated that disciplinary actions were already underway against the members for their participation in the State House meeting.
