Breaking News: President William Ruto Shakes Up the Forest Scene!
President William Ruto has made a bold move and appointed a new Non-Executive Chairperson for the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI). The lucky chap? None other than the retired Chief of Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe!

General Mwathethe Retakes the Helm
The former Chief of Defence Forces General Mwathethe has been chosen to head up the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI). Mwathethe retired from the CDF position in 2020 after five years of leading the Kenya Defence Forces. After his retirement, Mwathethe was appointed as the Chairperson of Kenya’s power-generating corporation, KenGen, a position he served until his recent appointment.
John Waithaka Out, Dr. Jane Lagat In
In addition to the appointment of Mwathethe, the President also revoked the appointment of John Waithaka who was formerly appointed by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta. Instead, President Ruto announced the appointment of Dr. Jane Lagat as the Chairperson of the Women Enterprise Fund Advisory Board, for a period of three years.
Revoking the Past
The announcement came amid a series of revocations announced by President Ruto’s administration as he looks to reorganize the government’s operations to align with the Kenya Kwanza agenda. Among the corporations affected include the Women Enterprise Fund Advisory Board, State Corporations Advisory Committee, and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). On Thursday, February 2, the government announced the revocation of five key appointees from the previous regime through a gazette notice.
Omar Boga Out
Among the officials affected include former Kilifi politician Omar Boga who saw his appointment as the head of the Coast Water Works Development Agency Board reversed. This is all part of President Ruto’s plan to realign the government with the Kenya Kwanza agenda and make sure the country is moving in the right direction.
