President William Ruto is expected to remove Commissioner Irene Masit from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
This comes after a report from the Justice Aggrey Muchelule-led Tribunal found Masit guilty of gross misconduct during the 2022 General Election and recommended her removal from office.
According to Article 251 of the Kenyan Constitution, the President is expected to act on the recommendation of the tribunal within 30 days after receiving the report.
Masit was investigated for her involvement in a team of three other former Commissioners who allegedly attempted to subvert the people’s will in the presidential elections.
Although the decision is binding, it remains unclear when the removal of Masit would be affected.
