President Ruto’s Chairmanship Appointment Halted by Court

President William Ruto’s appointment of Hussein Tene Debasso as chairman of the Kenya National Trading Corporation has been halted by the Nairobi Employment and Labour Relations Court judge, James Rika.

Captain Paul Rukaria petitioned the court after Ruto revoked his appointment on February 6, 2023.

Rukaria was appointed by Uhuru Kenyatta in August 2022 for a three-year term.

Ruto has been reorganizing the government by appointing individuals who will help implement his agenda.

After appointing the Cabinet and Principal Secretaries, he has been making appointments to various boards of key parastatals.

Rukaria argued that Ruto did not consult with the State Corporations Advisory Committee before revoking his appointment.

The court ruled in Rukaria’s favor and barred Debasso’s appointment until the hearing of the application.

Debasso ran for the Isiolo governor’s seat in August 2022 but lost to Abdi Guyo.

The Kenya National Trading Corporation’s mandate is to stabilize consumer commodity prices by ensuring a balance in supply and demand through the availability of products in the country.

It also provides procurement agency services for the government and the general public at a minimal fee.

The case will be mentioned on March 28.
