Kibra was in a frenzy as Azimio Chief Raila Odinga made a bold declaration at a rally on Sunday, February 5th. The former premier demanded the immediate release of Korogocho Member of County Assembly (MCA), Absalom Odhiambo, better known as Matakwey.
“Where’s Our Matakwey?”
The elected leader’s re-arrest after his release from the court had Raila up in arms. He gave the government a 24-hour ultimatum to release the MCA, whose whereabouts were unknown. Babu Owino, Embakasi East Member of Parliament, raised concerns over the ward representative being held at the Tigoni police station in Kiambu.
Matakwey’s lawyer, Apollo Mboya, claimed that his client was picked up by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) without any explanation. The advocate stated that he would be heading to court on Monday to secure the immediate release of his client.
Babu accused President William Ruto’s administration of using the police to fight political battles, the very issues they spoke against during their campaigns. On February 1st, Milimani Court Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe ordered the MCA’s unconditional release, arguing that the incitement to violence charge leveled against him was not based on existent law.

In conclusion, the fate of Matakwey remains unknown, but with Raila and Babu leading the charge, we can expect a resolution soon. And as for the controversial MCA, he may have some explaining to do, but one thing’s for sure, he’s not going down without a fight!
