Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio La Umoja – One Kenya party, has endorsed Wamunyinyi, a former member of parliament from Kanduyi, in preparation for the upcoming Bungoma Senatorial by-election.
After Moses Wetang’ula was elected as Speaker of the National Assembly, the IEBC declared the seat vacant. On December 8 of 2022, an election will be held to fill the vacant seat.
The leaders of the Azimio Affiliate parties in Bungoma county met on Sunday, and they settled on Wamunyinyi to run in the next by-election.
Wamunyinyi will go up against the nominee of the Ford Kenya party in the high-stakes contest that would see President William Ruto square off against Raila.
Raila stated that Wafula Wamunyinyi has the credentials to run for this seat since he has a track record of defending the interests of Kenyans.
He further assured Wamunyinyi of the full backing of the Azimio coalition.
