Raila Odinga’s tenure as the African Union’s High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa has come to an end, according to a letter from African Union Commission President Moussa Faki dated February 19.
Raila, who was appointed to the role in October 2018, expressed his desire to be relieved from the role about three weeks ago, citing other pressing matters that require his attention.

Faki praised Raila’s leadership in leveraging infrastructure as a key priority in the continent and his invaluable role in the transformation of the NEPAD Agency to the African Union Development Agency.
Raila stated that challenges such as inaction by the continent’s leadership and vested interests outside the continent remain in the push to improve Africa’s infrastructure.
Despite the potential implications of Raila’s departure, his commitment to public service and dedication to improving lives in Africa remain steadfast.
