Gachagua made the announcement on Thursday at the Mkomani Showground in Mombasa. The statewide humanitarian food distribution will take place in early November 2022. President William Ruto will participate, along with well-wishers.
While in Mombasa for the Agricultural Society of Kenya’s International Show, the DP made an impassioned plea for Kenyans to donate their extra food to feed the hungry.
“We ask the people of Kenya to donate food to help those in need. We’re making this plea because so many Kenyans are in need of assistance right now.” he stated.
Kenya Manufacturers Association (KAM) and Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) each promised Ksh340 million to support the effort.
Recently, the Red Cross has dispersed aid via other programs, such as the livestock offtake scheme, which helps farmers.
On Tuesday, November 1, President Ruto met with the Red Cross at State House to be introduced as the society’s patron. During this meeting, he pledged to assist with the relief organization to ensure that all counties, especially those in disadvantaged areas, receive humanitarian meals.
