Ruto affirms support for public universities and denies privatization plans

During the University of Kabianga’s 10th-anniversary celebrations, President William Ruto denied any plans to privatize public universities or increase fees, saying that the state will continue to support public universities.

Ruto praised the university for its innovative initiatives, advanced science, and technology, and urged universities to adopt a 21st-century posture.

He called for reforms to address the current financial and management challenges facing public universities and promised that the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms will provide recommendations.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu thanked Ruto for the timely appointment of the task force that addressed the crisis on Grade 7 domiciling, saying that 17.8 million books have been distributed to public JSS across the country.
