Ruto Attends the Sh7.8 billion Thiba Dam Opening

    Published on

Thiba Dam in Kirinyaga is about to be commissioned, and President William Ruto has attended to preside over the ceremony.

His deputy Rigathi Gachagua and the governor of Kirinyaga, Anne Waiguru, welcomed him upon his arrival.

The Sh7.8 billion dam will be officially opened by him, and water from it will be discharged for irrigation.

With the construction of the new dam, it is anticipated that the Mwea irrigation scheme, which covers 30,060 acres, would be given a new lease of life, and that an additional 10,000 acres will be covered for use in rice farming.

The agricultural sector stands to benefit the most from the dam, since rice growers expect to use the water for irrigation throughout the year.
