Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will host a crisis meeting on Monday, September 26 to harmonize drought mitigation efforts in 20 counties.
At least 3 million people face famine, according to President William Ruto.
The president indicated that county leaders will also attend.
“Monday, my deputy Rigathi Gachagua will host a meeting of GoK county leaders/officials to coordinate immediate efforts to halt the seriously terrible effect of ravaging drought in approximately 20 counties,” said Ruto.
The Head-of-State, who hasn’t returned to the nation, handed the responsibility to his deputy after the UN warned of a coming disaster in the Horn of Africa owing to drought.
UN said the number increased in six months, from 1.1 million.
