“Ruto Refuses to Budge on IEBC Decentralization”
President William Ruto made it clear that he was not in favor of a proposal by Azimio Chief Raila Odinga to amend the structure of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). During a stopover in Ruai, Ruto dismissed Raila’s idea to decentralize the IEBC to the county level, calling it a scheme to manipulate the election in his favor.

Raila, on the other hand, had a different take on the matter. During a public engagement forum at Kamukunji stadium in Kibra, Raila suggested that each county should have its own electoral commission with the results sent to the Nairobi office for the national tally. Raila insisted that Azimio should be involved in the selection of the commission members, claiming that they were the majority in the country.

But Ruto was not swayed by Raila’s arguments and fired back, assuring him that he would beat him in the 2027 General Election just as he did in the 2022 poll. The President pointed out that the IEBC does not elect anyone and it was the people who do so. In the end, it seemed that both leaders were gearing up for a battle royal in the next election.
