Kibra’s Soweto B in Nairobi is the site of an upcoming affordable housing project that will be unveiled by President William Ruto.
The event marks Ruto’s first visit to Kibra since becoming president.
At the annual Mashujaa Day festivities, President Ruto expressed government interest in providing Kenyans with low-cost housing.
“On Tuesday next week, I will break ground in Kibra Soweto B for a housing project that will supply thousands of housing units,” Ruto announced on Thursday at the Mashujaa day celebration.
Secretary of Housing Charles Hinga has said that Soweto B would be the largest social housing project ever carried out in an informal community.
The Ministry of Housing is leading the effort to improve the slum, which has been separated into four zones.
It is in Zone B that the planned 5000 low-cost apartments will go up.
