Safaricom introduces 5G internet services in Kenya

    Published on

In an effort to bring more of its clients up to speed on the newest and greatest in mobile broadband connectivity, Safaricom has announced the launch of 5G Wi-Fi.

Users in 5G-ready locations may now take use of Safaricom’s fast and consistent internet service for their homes and businesses.

Safaricom is the first telco in Kenya to launch 5G internet.

After South Africa, Kenya was the second African nation to debut a 5G wireless network.

Safaricom now operates 35 5G sites in Nairobi, Kisumu, Kisii, Kakamega, and Mombasa, with plans to increase this to 200 sites by March 2023.

According to specialists, a 5G network might function at a speed one hundred times quicker than the already popular 4G network.

Unlike 4G, which can only handle up to 100,000 connected devices per square kilometer, 5G can support up to 1 million connected devices per square kilometer.

Safaricom is working with finance solution Lipa Mdogo Mdogo to make 5G devices more accessible to low-income clients.

Users of 5G cellphones that are compatible with the network will also have access.

Customers with iPhones and some 5G-capable Samsung smartphones will need a software update from the manufacturer in order to connect to the 5G network.
