On Friday, November 25, Johnson Sakaja, the governor of Nairobi, put an end to nightclubs in residential areas.

Sakaja revoked the licenses for the aforementioned establishments and instructed his officials to not renew them.

“Those previously given are now revoked, and the enterprises may continue to function only as bars and restaurants. Nightclub permits will only be given out to locations that are located in the Central Business District and on certain streets in other non-residential zones, ” he said.

The governor emphasized the widespread public concern over loudness from commercial establishments selling or serving alcoholic beverages. In addition, he forbade the bars to turn down the music after 10 o’clock at night.
