Sakaja to Sponsor Education of High-Achieving Student from Mukuru Kwa Njenga

Date:

Governor Johnson M. Sakaja of Nairobi County has offered to sponsor the education of Petronila Mbinda, a high-achieving student from Mukuru Kwa Njenga slum in Nairobi. Petronila’s story was highlighted by Citizen TV after she reported failing to join high school due to a lack of school fees.

A Story of Excellence and Hardship

Petronila, who lives with both parents in the slum, had excelled in her studies at MerryCliff Junior School, scoring a remarkable 419 marks in her 2022 KCPE exams, making her the best pupil in her school. Despite her academic success, Petronila’s future was uncertain due to the financial difficulties faced by her family, with her father being jobless and her mother dependent on casual jobs.

Governor’s Generous Offer

Governor Sakaja was moved by Petronila’s story and has offered to sponsor her education from Form 1 to Form 4. This generous offer will provide Petronila with the opportunity to pursue her dreams and continue her academic journey, despite the challenges faced by her family.

Petronila’s story highlights the challenges faced by many students in Nairobi’s slums, who despite their best efforts and academic achievements, are unable to continue their education due to financial difficulties. Governor Sakaja’s offer serves as an inspiration to other students in similar circumstances and will hopefully encourage more people to support and invest in the education of young people in Nairobi’s slums.
