Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has accused a group of nine Members of Parliament who visited President William Ruto at the State House of being dishonest about their true agenda. Sifuna took to social media to express his disappointment in the visit, claiming that taxpayers should not have to beg for development.
No Need to Beg for Development, It’s a Right
The Senator’s comments came in response to a controversial visit by the MPs from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, which was met with backlash from their own party members. The MPs in question are Phelix Odiwuor (Lang’ata), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Shakeel Shabir (Kisumu East, Independent), Paul Abuor (Rongo), John Owino (Awendo), and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda.
Party Monitoring Behind-the-Scenes Activities
Philip Etale, the ODM party director of communications, called the meeting a tactic to divert the nation’s attention from pressing issues such as the high cost of living, unaffordable school fees, and corruption. However, one of the MPs, Jalang’o, defended the meeting as being centered on the development of their constituencies. He stated that the main purpose of the visit was to discuss the progress of affordable housing projects and educational facilities in his ward.
In conclusion, the recent State House visit by the ODM MPs has sparked heated discussions and differing opinions among the political circle. While some see it as a move towards development, others accuse the MPs of using it as a distraction from more pressing issues facing the nation.
