Senator Samson Cherargei calls for an investigation into immigration officials who cleared Matiang’i to travel abroad

Date:

In a recent development, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has called for an investigation into immigration officials who allowed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to leave the country despite being summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The senator has urged that Matiang’i be repatriated immediately to face the law.

The State Department for Citizen Services revealed on Tuesday that Matiang’i had traveled abroad a week before he was scheduled to appear before the DCI.

Detectives were interested in questioning him regarding a reported raid at his Karen residence on February 8th.

The Director General of the DCI, Emmanuel Simiyu, documented this on February 28th.

Detective Michael Sang had instructed Matiang’i to appear before him at Mazingira House last Friday at 9:30 a.m. without fail.

Matiang’i, however, refused to be questioned by the DCI, stating that he was out of the country and thus unavailable for questioning.
