Sirisia MP John Waluke ordered to pay 1Billion fine or spend 67 years in jail.

    Published on

The court’s ruling for Sirisia Member of Parliament (MP) John Waluke to pay Ksh1 billion or face 67 years in prison has left his future in limbo.

On October 6th Judge Esther Maina of the High Court denied Waluke’s appeal against a verdict in which he was punished for a Ksh297 million scandal involving the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

In the event that the fine is not paid, the MP will be expelled from office and a subsequent by-election will be held to elect a successor, according to Article 99 (2) (g) of the Constitution.

This only applies, if MP has exhausted all available avenues for challenging or reviewing the specific sentence.
