Super Metro and BasiGo Launch Electric Buses for Nairobi and Satellite Towns

Super Metro, in partnership with BasiGo, has introduced five electric buses to major routes in Nairobi and its satellite towns, including Kikuyu and Kitengela. Nelson Mwangi Nduki, the Super Metro Sacco Chairperson, announced on Tuesday, February 14, that residents of Ngong, Juja, and Imara Daima would benefit from the services offered by the electric buses. The Kikuyu-bound buses would operate on Waiyaki Way, stopping at key locations such as Westlands, Kangemi, Uthiru, and Kinoo, while the Kitengela-bound buses would ply routes along Mombasa Road.

Super Metro has five buses in operation to offer transportation services to city residents. The buses have been branded with the Super Metro logo and numbered KD series, according to images shared. The buses would operate during regular working hours, and the fares would be comparable to those of diesel-run vehicles, according to Nduki.

Super Metro’s project to revolutionize the transportation industry with electric buses began in November 2022, when the company announced that it had ordered ten electric buses. “We have actually ordered 10 electric buses. Some are set to arrive in December and start operating in January. The new electric buses will be branded with Super Metro colors,” Nduki stated.

BasiGo, an electric vehicle firm, made a separate statement confirming the introduction of electric buses. “The number of Electric Buses in Kenya keeps growing! Today, we handed Super Metro it’s first electric bus. The bus will ply the Central Business District (CBD) -Kikuyu and CBD Kitengela routes,” read the statement in part.

The electric buses’ launch was part of a partnership program between Super Metro and BasiGo. The buses’ introduction has been welcomed as a step towards green transportation and reduced pollution. The move to electric buses is also in line with Kenya’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which are responsible for climate change.

The introduction of electric buses has been hailed as a significant milestone in the transportation sector, with several stakeholders calling for more environmentally friendly initiatives. The introduction of electric buses has the potential to revolutionize the transportation sector and encourage more investments in sustainable and clean energy.

The Super Metro electric buses’ introduction is expected to provide an alternative transportation option for city residents, especially those who are environmentally conscious. The electric buses are also expected to offer a more comfortable and reliable means of transport, as they are quieter and require less maintenance than diesel-run vehicles.

The Super Metro electric buses are a game-changer for the transport industry, and it is hoped that more companies will follow suit and embrace the use of electric vehicles. The introduction of the electric buses is an essential step towards a cleaner and more sustainable transportation sector, which will benefit future generations.

The Super Metro project has also been lauded for its potential to create employment opportunities in the renewable energy and transportation sectors. The project is expected to attract investors interested in clean and sustainable energy, which will further boost the country’s economy.

In conclusion, the introduction of Super Metro’s electric buses is a significant milestone in the transportation industry, with the potential to revolutionize the sector. The move towards electric vehicles is a step towards reducing pollution, promoting sustainable energy, and creating employment opportunities. It is hoped that more companies will embrace the use of electric vehicles, and the government will provide incentives to encourage the adoption of clean energy in the transportation sector.
