The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) collaborated with Malindi International Airport Police to detain and apprehend Mariam Abdalla Bunu, the Acting Chief Officer for Finance in Tana River County Government.
Bunu was en route to Nairobi with KES 2.7 million in unexplained and undeclared cash, which the EACC suspects was obtained through corruption from the county government.
Bunu was taken to the EACC offices in Malindi, where she provided a statement after being unable to explain the source of the money at the airport and failing to declare it as required.
