Before the Supreme Court’s September 5 verdict, former Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi has provided an explanation for his choice to switch from Azimio la Umoja to Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza.
Speaking to the media, Kiraitu said that his defeat in the governor’s election was the result of a planned sabotage effort by prominent members of the Raila Odinga-led side.
Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP), he said, was upset in Azimio and could no longer be a member of the alliance.
The former governor also said that he would still back President-elect William Ruto even if the Supreme Court threw out his win.
If elections were conducted again, he predicted that Ruto would win.
