The presidential appeal filed by Azimio La Umoja’s flagbearer, Raila Odinga, and his running mate, Martha Karua, was formally opened for hearing on Wednesday, August 31 before the Supreme Court of Kenya, presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
An appeal to have William Ruto’s win against Raila Odinga nullified was filed by Odinga and seven others. To challenge the IEBC’s declaration of Ruto as president-elect, the former prime minister filed a lawsuit on Tuesday, August 30. At a pre-conference hearing that day, the court granted the former prime minister his first relief, allowing for a recount of the votes.
The principal petitioner in the case, the former prime minister, was granted the opportunity to be represented by a team of attorneys led by James Orengo.
