It was a gorgeous evening in Juja, in county of Kiambu. As the sun began to set, a warm golden light illuminated the surrounding area. Couples were seen often at the dam engaging in “park and relax” activities, which made the Toll area a favorite destination for them. However, for one married couple, the trip would end in a horrible tragedy.
They were taking in the sights and taking pleasure in one another’s company after parking their car close to the dam. But things swiftly got out of hand as they got into a heated argument with one other. According to eyewitnesses, the man started the vehicle before driving it backwards into the dam.
The incident took place in the evening on Tuesday, and by the time the authorities were notified, it was too late to prevent the outcome. A diver by the name of Martin Ngugi was sent to the scene in an effort to recover the dead. On Tuesday evening, he was successful in finding the corpse of the lady, but the body of the man and the car were nowhere to be discovered.
The man’s corpse wasn’t discovered and taken out of the dam until Wednesday. Both remains were transferred to the City Mortuary, where attendants were able to recognize the dead and notify their families.
The event was investigated as a possible suicide, leaving the community in shock and sadness. The Toll area, once a site of pleasure and romance, was now a terrible reminder of love gone wrong.
