This afternoon at Ulinzi Sports Complex, the Kenya Defense Forces will holds an elaborate military farewell ceremony for outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta, followed by a symbolic escort out of the Defence headquarters.
As President Kenyatta’s term comes to a close on Tuesday, he will hand over power to the new in-coming president William Ruto on Tuesday at a ceremonies in Kasarani.
The outgoing president will inspect his final guard of honour, mounted by soldiers in their ceremonial red tunics
He was flanked by the Chief of Defence Forces and will receive symbolic gifts from the military, including a neatly packed military uniform, as part of their tradition.
“The event is in line with the military traditions and custom to hold a farewell ceremony for the Commander in Chief of Defence Forces,” said theKDF Spokesperson Colonel Esther Wanjiku.
The Kenya Army is also headquartered at the KDF, which is the branch of the armed forces to which current Chief of Defense Forces General Robert Kibochi is connected.
In the beginning of this year, the outgoing president, Uhuru Kenyetta, inaugurated the Ulinzi Sports Complex in accordance with the Kenya Defense Forces’ credo of “Sharpening the arrowhead,” which translates into having a force that is prepared for its job.
It provides support to all three branches of the KDF as well as to civilians.
