Uhuru Kenyatta urges calm in Nigeria’s post-election period

Date:

Retired Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, has called on Nigeria’s election losers to remain calm and maintain peace following the elections.

Uhuru, who is also the head of the African Union Election Observers Mission (AUEOM), spoke after meeting with the election losers.

He condemned the incidences of political instability before and after the ballot and encouraged those who feel aggrieved to move to court.

The former President’s comments come after Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, announced that he would challenge the victory of the All Progressive Congress candidate, Bola Tinubu, in court.

PDP contender, Atiku Abubakar, also said he would seek legal address on the election results.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission maintained that the elections were free and fair and urged those with differing opinions to move to court.

With tensions high in Nigeria, it remains to be seen how the post-election period will unfold.
