Uhuru’s first public appearance since retirement

    Published on

Uhuru’s first public appearance since retiring was on Friday, when he met with Alok Sharma, president of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference.

The importance of nations fulfilling their COP26 adaptation financial obligations was the primary focus of the discussion.

His last day as president was September 13, thus this is his first public appearance since then. In the immediate aftermath of his retirement, Uhuru was approached by Ruto, who requested him to lead peace activities throughout Africa.

However, on Thursday, he announced that he will not be traveling to South Africa for AU peace talks about Ethiopia.

The former president explained his inability to attend in a letter to African Union chairman Mousa Faki Mahamat, citing a scheduling conflict.

A two-year war between the Ethiopian government and opposition Tigray troops was the focus of the peace talks in South Africa.
