Victor Bwire, the cousin of convicted terrorist Elgiva Bwire, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi for conspiring to attack Kenya’s landmark, the KICC building, in 2019.
The prosecution presented evidence that Bwire conspired with another suspect to collect information on KICC for a terrorist act.
The court found Bwire guilty based on his engagement with conspirators, concealing his identity, and surveilling KICC using three Facebook accounts he opened with lost ID cards.
In mitigation, Bwire pleaded for a non-custodial sentence, but the court agreed with the prosecution and sentenced him to 20 years in prison, emphasizing that terrorism is a heinous offense that warrants a stiff deterrent sentence.
