After winning his Supreme Court case, Wafula Chebukati, the head of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), got a letter of thanks from his peers all over the continent.

The Executive Committee of the Association of African Election Authorities (AAEA) commended the Chairperson in a letter on Wednesday, September 7. They praised him for his courage in overseeing free and fair elections.

“A hearty congratulations to our dear brother, Mr. Wafula Wanyonyi Chebukati, Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of Kenya and his team, the Supreme Court validation of the results declaration by the IEBC is a testament of your hard work and efforts,” Mrs. Jean Mensa, member of the AAEA Executive Committee, released a statement.

Furthermore, they mentioned how the Supreme Court verdict validated his efforts despite a heated challenge from one of the presidential candidates, Raila Odinga.

“We, the Executive Committee of the Association of African Election Authorities (AAEA) applaud your tireless efforts in ensuring the credibility of the 2022 Presidential Election in Kenya.

“We pray for continued peace and calm in Kenya and coming days and weeks.,” AAEA statement added.
