Waiguru demands quick disbursal of county funds.

Local governments have requested that state officials put in place procedures to speed up the flow of money to devolved authorities.

On Friday, Ann Waiguru, chair of the Council of Governors, said this would help tremendously with the county funding shortages that have delayed service provision for so long.

Waiguru, though, maintained her optimism that the Kenya Kwanza administration will be more effective and cause fewer delays than the previous one.

She reaffirmed that monetary support is necessary for counties to carry on their campaign promises to wananchi.

Kirinyaga county has not received its September allocation, she added, even though it is essential for funding crucial development projects and paying county employees.

On Friday, Waiguru addressed the Kirinyaga county parliament in Kerugoya in her capacity as governor.

Waiguru gave a speech in which she thanked the people of Kirinyaga for re-electing her and assured them that her government would not let them down but instead would increase the pace at which development projects were carried out throughout the county.
