Willy Mutunga: President Ruto must withdraw Miguna Red alerts

Published on

Willy Mutunga, a former Chief Justice, has pleaded with President William Ruto to permit attorney Miguna Miguna to return to Kenya.

The red alerts issued to Miguna must be lifted, according to a statement released by Mutunga on Thursday.

“He must. We are talking about the disobedience of over 17 court orders in favour of Miguna,” he stated in a tweet.

On February 26, 2018, Miguna was deported for the first time. the red signals prevented him from returning in November 2021 as expected.

Miguna had previously requested assistance in returning to Kenya so that he could attend President William Ruto’s inauguration.

Miguna, through his attorney Adrian Kamotho, wrote to Assumption of the Office of the President Committee chairperson Joseph Kinyua on September 7, arguing that continuing with their work without taking into account Miguna’s predicament in exile would violate the Constitution.

“Thus, your Committee has an overarching duty and legal obligation to ensure that our client is facilitated to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the 5th president, His Excellency William Samoei Ruto without fail,” the letter read.
