Yatani disagrees with Ruto that the country’s economy is in decline.

    Published on

Thursday, October 27, former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani pushed back against assertions by President William Ruto’s government that they inherited a deteriorating economy from the previous administration.

Yatani credited the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and himself for the record-breaking GDP growth that has occurred in Kenya during his tenure as Treasury Secretary.

Treasury worked tirelessly with the CBK governor to guarantee that there is liquidity in the economy. We were able to keep the economy viable and increase it. For the first time in 11,12 years, we were among the greatest economic growth rates, with 7.5 GDP.

    Yatani commented.

Both Ruto and his deputy president, Rigathi, have emphasized on several occasions that they inherited a damaged economy from President Kenyatta.

Further, Yatani defended the Kazi mtaani program, which President Ruto eliminated, by saying that it helped Kenyans who had lost their employment during tough economic times.

After seeing the futility of Kazi mtaani, on October 25th, Ruto officially dissolved it. He said that the jobs it would generate would be incompatible with his initiative to create new jobs.
